With as many as one million Americans living with Parkinson’s disease (PD) and approximately 60,000 new diagnoses each year, we understand the importance of effective treatment and management.

What is Parkinson’s Disease?

Parkinson’s disease is a progressive neurological disorder that impacts movement and coordination. Common symptoms include tremors, slowed movements, muscle stiffness, and balance issues. Emerging research suggests that exercise not only helps improve movement but may also slow the progression of the disease.

Our Specialized Programs

Willow Grove offers two evidence-based programs designed to address the unique challenges of Parkinson’s disease:

  1. PWR! Parkinson Wellness Recovery: PWR! is a personalized treatment approach grounded in current scientific research. It targets slowness of movement, stiffness, postural instability, and freezing.

The core of the PWR! program consists of four key movements: PWR! Up, Rock, Twist, and Step. These movements are designed at various challenge levels and emphasize large, intense motions to improve posture, trunk flexibility, weight shifting, and walking.

  1. LSVT BIG: LSVT BIG is an intensive program requiring significant effort from the patient. It involves 16 one-hour sessions over four weeks, with four sessions per week, minimal rest periods, and at-home exercises. The program focuses on enhancing walking abilities and achieving a personal goal chosen by the patient.

Experience the Benefits of Physical Therapy

Our physical therapists are movement and exercise specialists who design optimal exercise and gym programs for individuals with Parkinson’s disease. Regular follow-up appointments every six to twelve months ensure that patients continue to benefit from the most effective exercise regimens.
